Joyce Sims ‘Tonight’

 

1. How did you get your initial start in music?

My professional career started in NYC.  Networking through a friend I met a studio engineer and played my demo to him. He liked the tracks and played them to a record label in NYC. The label liked the tracks as well and signed me to the label.

2. What would be your ultimate aim in the industry?

My ultimate aim in the industry is to put out good music that makes people feel good. A few Grammy awards would be an honor as well.

3. How long have you been writing your own music?

I started writing music while I was in high school.

4. Who are your top three influences and why?

My top three influences are Michael Jackson (Jackson Five), Stevie Wonder and ,Chaka Khan. All three artist made incredible music and their style is totally unique to them. Stevie Wonder inspired me to learn to sing and play piano. Chaka Khan blew me away with her vocal range and power.

5. Is there anything you would like people to know about your current release?

My current release is an R&B/Soul track called “Tonight” and will be released in October 2013 on my own label “August Rose Records”. I decided to record my new album in the UK under the supervision of my management. It’s also the first time I’ve written with other writers, it was an awesome experience.

6. Where are you based and what’s your local scene like? Any favourite venues?

I’m based out of the United States, NYC.  My local scene consists of Clubs, DJ’s and live venues.I really don’t have a favorite venue.
