Andy Leek – ‘From Icarus To Phoenix’

One of the original Dexys Midnight Runners members, Andy Leek has established himself as a proficient singer-songwriter in his own right. Releasing a handful of albums, Leek is looking towards his long-planned double album ‘From Icarus To Phoenix’. Out January 2014, Leek has put three tracks out to stream on his soundcloud (listen above). Get to know Andy better.

1. How did you get your initial start in music?

I was born into a very musical family who sat me at the piano before I could even talk. I joined a club band at the age of 13 and played every Friday and sat.

2. What would be your ultimate aim in the industry?

To be no. 1 around the world and become the biggest selling artist in  most countries. A legend with humility and class.

3. How long have you been writing your own music?

Since the age of seven so 47 years now.

4. Who are your top three influences and why?

Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Paul simon because they are the greatest songwriters who ever lived.

5. Is there anything you would like people to know about your current release?

It is a song born out of pure emotion listen in soundcloud and let the sentiment surge into your heart. It’s called ‘beloved’

6. Where are you based and what’s your local scene like? Any favourite venues?

I’m in Lichfield I don’t  know any local scene I’m not a part of society I’m a total recluse. I really don’t like any music venues they’re too noisy and polluted.

7. Who else can you recommend from your local scene for people to have a listen to?

No one. I don’t go out anymore.
