Neuronspoiler

Band-61.      How did you get your initial start in music?

My parents bought be a violin because I was too small to hold a guitar when I was a young kid.  As soon as I hit 10 I got my first guitar.  Thankfully I never played the violin again.

2.      What would be your ultimate aim in the industry?

To be able to live off the earnings from music.  Failing that, to be recognised as part of a band that is reigniting traditional heavy metal and to have made a difference to someone’s day with my music.

3.      How long have you been writing your own music?

I’ve been writing my own songs since I was 15 so about 15 years or so.

4.      Who are your top three influences and why?

Adrian Smith – criminally underrated guitarist, especially by Maiden fans.  Doesn’t make sense.

Yngwie Malmsteen – whilst I definitely don’t have his lead chops, his overall style of composition has really rubbed off on me.

Dave Mustaine – great song writer, great rhythm player.  Inspiration to keep going, considering the crap he went through and how far he’s come by his own determination.

There are many more I’d like to mention for various reasons, but you said top 3.

5.      Is there anything you would like people to know about your current release?

That it exists? Seriously I just hope there are people that enjoy it for what it is: non-pretentious, fun, heavy metal.

6.      Where are you based and what’s your local scene like? Any favourite venues?

I’m Brighton based, although we rehearse and gig primarily in London. My favourite venue to date in London is the Scala where we did a charity gig for Hurricane of Hearts (http://hurricaneofhearts.com/) earlier this year.  What a great venue to play when it’s packed, fantastic atmosphere!

The local scene in Brighton is sadly not very into traditional metal it seems.  There’s a lot of Doom and shouty thrash, but no classic metal bands at all here.  No one seems interested in putting us on either.  If anyone from Brighton is reading this and wants to put Neuronspoiler on, put your money where your mouth is and get in contact, you’ll have a great show guaranteed.

7.      Who else can you recommend from your local scene for people to have a listen to?

Cavendish Sniff are a Brighton based sleaze rock band.  Their songs are really catchy and their shows are always entertaining.  They’ve only been going a short while but have a strong fan base and are going from strength to strength and are just a great bunch of guys. You should check them out as they are gigging very soon.

Neverworld are a great heavy metal band who we played quite a few gigs with last year. They have some brilliant songs and they’re always great live so they’re definitely worth checking out. They’ve been threatening to release an album soon for the last year so when that finally comes out it’ll definitely be worth getting hold of.
